Price ceiling sa bigas, iginiit

Hiniling ni Senator Chiz Escudero sa Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) na magkaroon ng price ceiling sa bigas sa gitna na rin ng patuloy na pagtaas ng presyo nito sa iba’t ibang panig ng bansa.

“Government, thru the DTI, should immediately impose a price ceiling on rice. It is overpriced by P4 to P13, and up to P28 to P38 in Zamboanga City, per kilo and importers/traders are making a killing at the expense of our people and economy,” ani Escudero.

Isinailalim na sa state of calamity ang Zamboanga City dahil sa kakapusan ng bigas at sa walang tigil na pagtaas ng presyo nito, na napaulat na umaabot na sa P50-P70 kada kilo.

Hiniling din ni Escudero sa Department of Justice (DoJ) at sa National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) na tingnan kung may paglabag sa Republic Act No. 10845 o ang AntiAgricultural Smuggling Act.

“I also urge the DoJ/NBI to look into possible violations of R.A. No. 10845, specifically Section 3 thereof on ‘economic sabotage’ committed by some unscrupulous importers/traders. We cannot allow this situation to subsist and go unchecked,” sabi ni Escudero.

Kaugnay nito, pinahintulutan ng National Food Authority (NFA) Council ang mga local rice traders na mag-angkat ng mas maraming bigas upang mapababa ang presyo nito sa merkado.

Ayon kay Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque, pinayagan ng NFA Council ang pribadong sektor na magangkat ng bigas “beyond the Minimum Access Volume (MAV)”.

“Dahil ito po’y minimum, pupuwede pong tumaas pa ang ating importation at dahil sa mga pangyayari po at para mapababa po ang presyo ng bigas, mag-o-authorize po ang NFA Council para sa pribadong sektor – uulitin ko po, para sa pribadong sektor na mag-angkat ng bigas beyond the Minimum Access Volume for 2018,” sinabi kahapon ni Roque.
