Facial cream product, delikado

Pinaalalahanan ng EcoWaste Coalition ang publiko, hinggil sa panganib na dala ng isang facial cream product na ibinebenta ngayon sa merkado.

Naglabas ng abiso ang toxic watchdog matapos nilang matuklasan na may lead ang “Top Shirley Medicated Cream” mula sa Taiwan, na hindi rehistrado ng Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Gamit ang portable X-Ray fluorescence analytical device, natuklasan na may lead na umaabot sa 2,088 parts per million (ppm) ang produkto na binili ng grupo sa Chinese Drugstore sa isang mall sa Divisoria.

Labis-labis ang lampas nito sa 20 ppm na limitasyon, alinsunod sa ASEAN Cosmetic Directive.

“Lead is a highly toxic poison, which can be ingested or absorbed through the skin that is why it is banned in cosmetic product formulations. To protect public health and the environment, lead is not only banned in cosmetics, but also in gasoline, paints, toys, school supplies, water pipes, and food contact packaging,” pahayag ni Thony Dizon, chemical safety campaigner ng EcoWaste Coalition.

“We are worried that consumers craving to have lighter and flawless skin are being enticed to buy and use this unsafe product because of its efficacy claims and affordability,” dagdag pa niya.

Upang maiwasan ang pagkakalantad sa mga heavy metal tulad ng lead at ng iba pang kemikal na nakakalason, muling ipinaalala ng EcoWaste Coalition ang payo ng FDA sa mga mamimili “to be vigilant against cosmetic products that might not be duly notified with the FDA.”
