Sanitary landfill sa Iloilo, inirereklamo

Iloilo City - Iniimbestigahan na ng Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) ang isang sanitary landfill sa Iloilo City dahil sa reklamo ng mga residente na pagalingasaw nito.

Nilinaw ni DENR-Western Visayas Regional Director Jim Sampulna na nagtungo na ang investigating team ng Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) sa landfill sa Bgy. Calajunan sa Mandurriao district upang inspeksyunin ito.

“If the sanitary landfill is managed properly, it should not smell bad,” pagdidiin ni Sampulna.

Matatandaang binuksan ng Iloilo City government ang nasabing

Landfill na ginastusan ng P200 milyon, nitong Agosto 2016, alinsunod na rin sa Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.

Sinabi nito na dapat sana ay residual waste lamang ang tinatanggap ng landfill ngunit itinatapon pa rin sa lugar pati tone-toneladang nonsegregated waste.

“If that is the case, then DENR has to issue a cease and desist order against the Iloilo City government,” aniya.

Nagsimula ang problema ng mga residente nang payagan ng city government ang pagtatapon ng basura ng bayan ng Leganes sa naturang landfill.

“While it is allowed under the law, it will aggravate the situation. The city government must first fix the problem before accepting garbage from Leganes,” pagdidiin pa ni Sampulna.
