R25 umento, kulang kasi—labor groups

Hinimok ng Associated Labor Unions-Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (ALU-TUCP) si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na aprubahan ang P500 monthly food voucher subsidy mula sa gobyerno para sa lahat ng minimum wagedearners dahil kulang ang P25 umentong inaprubahan para sa Metro Manila, dahil na rin sa nananatili pa ring mataas ang presyo ng mga bilihin at serbisyo sa bansa.

Sinabi ng National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) na lahat ng 16 regional wage boards sa buong bansa ay nagbigay na ng wage order simula Enero ng taong ito, maliban sa Caraga Region.

Ang Metro Manila wage board ang huling nagkaloob ng umento at itinaas ang minimum na suweldo sa P537 mula sa P512.

“On the average, wage boards acted only on the capacity of employers and businesses to afford the wage increases by adjusting the nominal minimum wage rates by P32 to P36 a day nationwide. This is too small for workers who help business and economy grow,” sabi ni Alan Tanjusay, tagapagsalita ng ALU-TUCP.

Ayon sa ALU-TUCP, ang average daily minimum wage sa bansa na P232 ay hindi sapat para sa milyun-milyong nasa rank-and-file at contractualized minimum waged workers sa agrikultura, mga serbisyo at sektor ng manufacturing.

Upang manatiling malusog at produktibo, sinabi ng ALU-TUCP na ang mga may labor-intensive jobs ay nangangailangan ng hindi bababa sa P800-P850 bawat araw upang mabuhay nang maayos.

“Employers and businesses were ungenerous by dictating paltry wage adjustments. Government should now step in and also provide help. Government should do its part of the equation by helping and providing a life-saver through non-cash food voucher subsidy to help and save minimum waged workers drift from poverty to poverty,” ani Tanjusay.

Sa ilalim ng panukalang isinumite sa Pangulo noong Abril 2017, hinimok ng ALU TUCP ang gobyerno na tugunan ang patuloy na epekto ng inflation sa pagbibigay ng P500 buwanang food voucher, nontransferable subsidy sa inisyal na apat na milyong minimum wage workers.

Ang panukala ay inendorso ng Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) sa Pangulo noong Hunyo ngayong taon sa P200 isang buwan, at hindi ang orihinal na iminungkahi ng ALU-TUCP na P500.

“It is apparent that the recent wage orders will fall far short of meeting the 10-months-and-running price spike in basic goods suffered by worker families. Our subsidy proposal has widespread support including from the leadership of the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) and Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III himself,” ani Tanjusay.
