QCBL, liga para sa kabataan
MAS maraming kabataan ang maiangat ang buhay sa sports ang target ng Quezon City Basketball League (QCBL) para sa susunod na mga conference.
Ayon kay QCBL Operations Director BJ Manalo, mas paiigtingin ng liga ang pakikipagugnayan sa local na pamahalaan at sa barangay executives upang mas maraming kabataan hindi lamang sa lungsod ng Quezon City kundi maging sa karatig na mga lugar na makasama sa programa.
“Our advocacy is really to help basketball. The QCBL, headed by Nino Reyes of FEUNRMF, is committed to this vision of providing support whenever and wherever it is needed,” p[ahayag ni Manalo sa kanyang pagbisita sa 10th “Usapang Sports” ng Tabloid Organization in Philippine Sports (TOPS) nitong Huwebes sa National Press Club sa Intramuros.
“We just completed our first conference with three divisions last Sunday, but we are already planning to hold more this year,” ayon sa dating La Salle standout.
Kasama niyang bumisita sa lingguhang forum na itinataguyod ng Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) at NPC si QCBL commissioners Ricky Alcantara, Pong Rollan at MVP awardee Kenneth Agustin ng Team Nemesis.
“The next step is to go around the city, especially the barangays, and look for players who need the opportunity to hone their skills and achieve their dreams,” sambit ni Manalo, bahagi ng high school team ng Ateneo bago sumapi sa La Salle sa kolohiyo at kuning No.13 overall ng Purefoods sa PBA Draft noong 2005.
Iginiit ni Manalo, team manager ng NorthPort, na kakaiba ang nadarama niyang kasiyahan na makita ang mga kabataan na magpursige sa kanilang hangaring makaangat sa buhay.
“Not all good players get the chance to play in the UAAP and the NCAA, which could ge their passport to the PBA. The QCBL hopes to fill that role of giving them the opportunity to shine,” aniya.
“Hindi man natuloy yun career ko as a player, nandito pa din tayo sa basketball para tumulong sa iba na may pangarap din. The QCBL is a new challenge for me,” pahayag ni Manalo.
Tinanghal na unang kampeon ng QCBL ang Trinity University of Asia Stallions matapos gapiin ang Nyro Saints sa FEU-NRMF gym.
