Gamot na marijuana papayagan lang sa epilepsy

Muling nilinaw kahapon ng Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) na ang paggamit ng marijuana ay nananatiling labag sa batas at ipinagbabawal sa bansa kapwa para sa libangan at paggamot.

Gayunman, sinabi ni DDB Chairman Catalino Cuy na ang paggamit ng cannabidiol “is being considered to be allowed for treatment of certain rare forms of epilepsy like Lennox-Gastaut and Dravet Syndrome’’.

“Cannabidiol (CBD) is just one of the hundreds of cannabinoids found in marijuana. It is by far, the only component proved to have medical benefits,’’ saad sa pahayag ng DDB.

Magugunita na pinapayagan ng United States Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) ang paggamit at pagrehistro ng gamot na tinatawag na Epidiolex na isang CBD na hindi hihigit sa 0.1 porsyento tetrahydrocannabidiol (THC), batay sa naaprubahan na threshold ng United States Drug Enforcement Agency (US DEA).

Ipinaliwanag Cuy na ang Epidiolex ay isang oral solution form na may maximum dosage o na 20 milligrams per day.

Kasunod ng threshold na ito, isinasaalang-alang ng DDB ang pagampon ng isang regulasyon upang payagan ang paggamit ng gamot.

Sinabi ni Cuy na kumukonsulta na ang lupon sa experts mula sa academe, professional medical associations, Department of Health, Food and Drug Administration, at Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency upang wakasan ang regulasyon.

Wala namang balak si Senate President Vicente Sotto III na tutulan ang pahayag ng DDB na aprubado na “in principle” ang cannabidiol (CBD) bilang gamot sa sakit na epilepsy.

Aniya, hindi na rin kailangan pa na dinggin ito ng Kongreso ang kailangan lamang ay sumunod ito sa DDB-PDEA (Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency) “guidelines and permit.”

“The DDB move proves that the law being proposed in the HOR is unnecessary. There are more important proposed legislations that our honorable counterparts at the HOR should spend their time on. I hope they give priority to measures that will have more impact on the most number of our countrymen,” ani Sotto.
