DOE, kinalampag sa nagbabantang brownout

Nanawagan ang tinaguriang “Power Bloc” ng House of Representatives nitong Lunes sa Department of Energy (DOE) na magsagawa ng pagsisikap at ipatupad ang mga kinakailangang hakbang sa harap ng nagbabantang power shortage ngayong tag-araw, kahit na umapela ito sa publiko na maging “conscious” sa kanilang pagkonsumo ng kuryente.

Apat na partylist representatives na mula sa electric cooperatives (ECs) sector ang nagpahayag ng kanilang seryosong pagkabahala sa napipintong brownouts at pagtaas ng presyo ng kuryente sa tagaraw.

“I believe that as much as we should deal with concerns on public safety, there is also a need to prepare for the increasing dilemma on power shortage. With power shortage, it is then inevitable that brownouts will follow, alongside with price spikes,” sinabi ni partylist Rep. Sergio Dagooc (APEC) sa reporters sa isang press conference.

Sinabi niya na kabilang sa mga kadahilanan na nag-aambag sa inaasahang kakapusan ng kuryente ay ang kakulangan ng mga halaman na nagbibigay ng mga serbisyong pansulong sa grid, at ang kakulangan ng mga bagong halaman ng halaman upang masakop ang pagtaas ng demand.

“Every summer, we have been talking about this power shortage, this is a recurring problem. Why is it that it remains a recurring problem? The DOE should do its job,” ani Dagooc

Sa kanyang panig, hiniling ni Rep. Presley De Jesus (PHILRECA) sa DOE na kumilos kaagad sa mga aplikasyon ng mga electric kooperatiba para sa Competitive Selection Process (CSP) para sa pagkuha ng kuryente.

“Delayed CSPs will expose the uncontracted demand of ECs to volatile market prices which will be shouldered by the consumers,” ani De.

May anim na ECs na humihiling ng approval ng kanilang TORs. Ang mga ito ay ang ISELCO I, CAGELCO II, BUSECO, BATELEC II, NEECO II, at PANELCO I.

Sinabi ni Rep. Godofredo Guya (RECOBODA) na distribution utilities tulad ng mga electric cooperatives ay sinisisi ng mga consumers sa mga pagtaas sa presyo ng kuryente.

Sa kanyang panig, hiniling ni Rep. Adriano Ebcas (AKO PADAYON) ang adoption ng demand-side management at iba pang mga hakbang para maibsan ang power shortage sa tag-araw.

“Turn off the lights if you don’t use them, do not overload your outlets, avoid using extensions, unplug idle devices, set air conditioners at a reasonably comfortable temperature and use energyefficient appliance,” ani Ebcas.
