“This Lenten season, the Church reminds us to fight consumerism or too much spending which brings about the throw away culture where we view things as very temporary and can be easily replaced. Let us, instead, devote our time to charitable causes, reflection, and conversion,” sinabi ni Rev. Fr. Anton Pascual sa Radio Veritas ng Simbahan.
Si Pascual ang pangulo ang faithbased station at executive director ng Caritas Manila.
“One form of sacrifice this Lent is the effort to control oneself from buying things that you do not really need. Instead of spending too much, let us heed the call of the Church for us to be more charitable, to help the needy and the least fortunate,” wika ni Pascual.
“Consumerism further destroys the environment with the garbage and pollution that it generates,” dagdag niya.
“Let us open our Bibles this Lent to have a meaningful observance. Let us devote our time to prayer, reading the Bible and other spiritual books, and praying the Holy Rosary,” sinabi ni Pascual.
Sa kanyang mensahe sa Kuwaresma, hinimok ni Pope Francis ang mga mananampalataya na “to fight consumerism as well as to minimize the use of gadgets” ngayong banal na panahon.
Sa kanyang panig, nanawagan si Boac Bishop Marcelino Maralit Jr., chairman ng Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines -Episcopal Commission on Social Communications, sa mga mananampalatay na “to put down their gadgets this Lent and to spend their time in reflection, prayer, self-denial, and charity.”
