Responsable ang GAB sa Pinoy boxers -- Masanguid

DAGDAG pasanin sa buwis ng sambayanan ang dagdag na ahensiya na duplikado lamang sa gawain ng Games and Amusements Board (GAB).

Ito ang iginiit ni GAB Commissioner Mario ‘Mar’ Masanguid, kasabay ang pahayag na higit na makabubuti sa professional boxing at combat sports na mapatatag at mapalawak ang programa sa pangangasiwa ng ahensiya kumpara na magbuo ng hiwalay na komisyon na tanging pinagiba lamang ay ang karagdagang pondo na papasanin mula sa buwis ng mamamayan.

Sinabi ni Masanguid na tama ang punto ni Senator Manny Pacquiao na dapat mapangalagaan ang katayuan at seguridad ng mga Pinoy boxers at combat sports fighters, subalit hindi ang pagbuo ng Philippine Boxing and Combat Sports Commission (PCSC) ang kasagutan dito.

Aniya, ang GAB, higit sa pamumuno sa kasalukuyan ni Chairman Abraham ‘Baham’ Mitra, ay nagsasagawa at patuloy na tumutugon sa pangangailangan ng mga professional athletes, higit sa mga boxers at combats sports fighters, at patunay ang pagkilala ng iba’t ibang international boxing bodies sa GAB sa mataas na level ng pamamahala sa ahensiya.

“While we really support Senator Pacquiao’s desire to advance the interest of Pinoy boxers and other combat sports pro athletes, this initiative to create a new government agency or office may not be a good move as we are facing a pandemic or unprecedented recession and all government resources and efforts are better to be redirected to solve these problems,” pahayag ni Masanguid patungkol sa Senate Bill No. 193 at Senate Bill No. 805 na itinutulak ni Pacquiao para sa pagbuo ng bagong boxing commission.

Batay sa proposed Senate Bill, kakailanganin ang P150 milyon budget para mapatakbo ang PCSC na binubuo ng isang Chairman, apat na Commissioner at mga regional directors.

“We are talking about P150 million here. These public funds will be utilized to create a new government agency for the purpose of regulating three professional sports (boxing, MMA, and Muay Thai), while GAB, an existing agency since 1950 and with a P140, 598,000 budget allocation, regulates 13 professional sports and 2 activities related to amusements games (international derby and betting aspect of horse racing/ OTBS),” ayon kay Masanguid sa kanyang pagbisita sa Tabloids Organization in Philippine Sports (TOPS) ‘Usapang Sports’ via Sports on Air at livestream sa facebook at Youtube.

“Kinausap ko na ang butihing Senator Pacquiao, sabi ko sa kanya kung ano ang nakikita niyang pagkukulang sa GAB, aayusin namin. Open naman kami dyan at si Chairman Mitra ay talagang handa sa lahat ng suhestyon para mas maaayos ang GAB. So far, protektado ang ating mga boxers, kahit sa panahon ng pandemic, andyan ang GAB para magserbisyo,” sambit ni Masanguid sa programa na itinataguyod ng Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Pagcor, at Games and Amusements Board (GAB).

Ayon kay Masanguid tuloy hanggang Disyembre 31, habang inaasayos pa ang bagong memorandum of agreement (MOA) sa Department of Health (DOH), ang libreng CT scan, medical, laboratory, at neurological services sa lahat ng GAB-licensed boxers, MMA at Muay Thai fighters.

“To ease the difficulty in renewing licenses and to reduce possible transmission of the virus in the workplace, we have adopted electronic governance mechanisms (i.e. Online pre-registration before going to the office, online application, telemedicine, among others). Before the pandemic, our professional athletes are required to visit our office in Makati to transact their license applications, now with the help of our IT Section and DICT, our license application and renewal can be made online;” pahayag ni Masanguid.
