Jaycee Marcelino’s career-game lifts LPU vs EAC
Games on Tuesday (Filoil Flying V Centre) 12 n.n. Perpetual vs Arellano 2 p.m. Letran vs Mapua 4 p.m. San Beda vs JRU JAYCEE Marcelino turned in a career performance as Lyceum of the Philippine University Pirates survived a stubborn Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, 106-97, yesterday to grab the solo lead in the NCAA Season 94 men’s basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan City. Marcelino, the PCCL Finals Most Valuable Player, unleashed 13 of his career-best 24 points in the fourth quarter to help the Pirates fend off a third quarter breakdown and claim their second win in a row and the solo lead following an 85-80 win over the San Sebastian College Stags on opening day at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
“We can’t relax against any team in this league and EAC reminded us that we really can’t,” said LPU coach Topex Robinson.
LPU looked in cruise control when it seized a 72-41 lead—its biggest in the game—in the third quarter.
But the Pirates started to relax, allowing the Generals to detonate a 36-8 bomb that cut the lead to three, 80-77, at the end of the third period.
And then Marcelino took over. Marcelino added eight rebounds, five steals and two assists to cap one of his most memorable games yet.
Reigning MVP CJ Perez ended up with 20 points, five boards and a game-high six steals while Ralph Tansingco and Jayvee Marcelino, Jaycee’s twin, chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.
