SIX security guards were injured when New People's Army members attacked a banana plantation in Arakan, North Cotabato, Thursday night, police said.

Guards Jerry Cansico, Ramar Embay, Naseran Embana, Joel Algocoy, Nelson Ampugo, and Christoval Felix were brought to the nearest hospital because of injuries, North Cotabato provincial police spokesman Supt. Bernard Tayong said.

An undetermined number of rebels carried out the attack around 8:45 p.m., at the packing facility of Lapanday Foods Corporation's plantation in Brgy. Dallag.

Two explosions were heard at first, followed by sporadic gun fire that resulted in the wounding of the security guards on duty, Tayong said.
