UP’s Paul Desiderio joins PBA Rookie Draft
UNIVERSITY of the Philippines Fighting Maroons team captain Paul Desiderio shakes off their team’s loss in the recent UAAP Season 81 men’s basketball Finals and move on to become the latest collegiate superstar to join the pool of aspirants in the upcoming 2018 PBA Rookie Draft to be held on December 16 at the Robinsons Place Manila.
Desiderio submitted his draft application on Friday bringing up the number of applicants for the PBA Rookie Draft to a total of 45.
The 21-year-old playmaker from Cebu finally decided to try his chances in the professional league after a memorable final collegiate year where he reached the championship round with UP, who made its first UAAP Finals appearance in 32 years.
Desiderio averaged 13.7 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.3 steals in his fifth season with the Fighting Maroons.
Desiderio also did well in the PBA D-League, helping the Go for Gold Scratchers claim the 2018 PBA D-League Foundation Cup championship. He was also part of the Batang Gilas squad in the 2014 FIBA Under-17 World Cup.
He joins the coming rookie draft which also includes CJ Perez, Bobby Ray Parks and Robert Bolick. — A.O.
