San Beda downs EAC in NCAA volleyball
SAN Beda University woke up from an opening set defeat as it turned back Emilio Aguinaldo College, 23-25, 25-15, 2523, 25- 17, yesterday to seize the solo lead in the women’s division of the NCAA Season 94 volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.
Tr i s h a Ma e Pa r a s paced her team with 19 points, most of which came in the last three sets when the Lady Red Spikers turned things around from a sluggish first set effort on their way to their fourth straight win.
Maria Nieza Viray scattered 13 hits while Sattriani Espiritu added 11.
Cesca Racraquin continued to make a case for this year’s MVP award that eluded her a season ago as she posted a volleyball triple-double with 12 points, 19 digs and a match-best 15 receptions.
Jaylene Mae Lumbo erupted for a match-high 25 hits including 21 on kills but didn’t get enough support as none of her teammates scored seven points or more.
The Lady Generals skidded to their third straight loss.
In men’s action, EAC downed San Beda to claim its first triumph after starting the tournament with back-to-back setbacks.
