Chinese nabbed for smoking, throwing cigarette at enforcer's face
POLICE arrested a Chinese national for smoking in public, then throwing the cigarette at a lawman's face, in Boracay Island, Aklan, Sunday night.
Suspect Dennis Chong, 50, was arrested in Brgy. Balabag, around 9:45 p.m., said Lt. Col. Joem Malong, Western Visayas regional police spokesperson.
Noly Cuatriz, of the Malay Auxillary Police (MAP), and his team first warned Chong against smoking in public, but the latter threw the cigarette at the former's face, Malong said, citing field reports.
Chong, a native of Hong Kong currently staying in Balabag and owner of a travel agency, got angry when MAP members asked him to stop smoking, according to information from the Malay Police Station.
After the incident, Cuatriz and Chong were brought to a hospital for medical checks, then the latter was detained at the police station.
Meanwhile, police arrested a tour guide caught selling marijuana, during a buy-bust operation in Brgy. Manocmanoc, also in Boracay, around 5 a.m. Monday.
Arrested was Silvino Saus Jr., 31, a native of Ibajay, Aklan, currently staying in Sitio Din-iwid, Balabag.
Saus sold two sachets of marijuana to a police poseur-buyer in exchange for P1,600, said Maj. Jess Baylon, officer-in-charge of the Malay Police.
Operatives confiscated another sachet of marijuana, the buy bust money, an identification card, and cellphone from Saus after frisking him.
The tour guide's arrest came only a few days after two musicians were arrested also for selling marijuana in Manocmanoc. —John Roson
