Is GlobalPort Batang Pier keeping core of its lineup?

‘Decision is not in my hands,’ says head coach Jarencio

- By Rey Joble

GLOBALPORT has done a lot of tinkering in its line up prior to the start of the season and it resulted to the team’s first ever semifinals stint.

A total of six new players were brought into the team — Joseph Yeo, Jay Washington, Dorian Peña, Jonathan Uyloan, rookies Roi Sumang and Chris Paniamogan — to help out franchise players Terrence Romeo and Stanley Pringle.

Although Romeo and Pringle, two explosive guards, remain to be the focal point of the offense, head coach Pido Jarencio was able to complement them with the addition of veterans like Mr. Yeo and Mr. Washington and the vastly-improving Keith Jensen.

Now the big question is: will GlobalPort keep the core of its line up or continuously make some retooling?

“That’s beyond my control. The decision is not in my hands because the management still has a say on that,” added Mr. Jarencio.

The Batang Pier had made it to the semifinal round for the first time since 2012 and Mr. Jarencio believes they’ve learned a lot of lessons going up against the big dogs in the league.

“We’ve learned a lot of lessons, but on the other hand, we’ve found out that we still have many things to improve,” said Mr. Jarencio.

“This is a good start. This is the start of the year and we made it to the semifinals for the first time.”

The Batang Pier had shown a lot of promise and it wouldn’t take long before the team makes it all the way to the championship round.

“I just told them to keep believing on themselves. One of the things we’ve learned that during the playoffs you cannot slow down, you cannot relax,” said Mr. Jarencio. “The energy level should be high a lot of times.”
