GMA NETWORK, Inc. on Monday said it strengthened its national television ratings lead in Urban Luzon and Mega Manila in June, citing data from Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.

In a statement, GMA Network said it recorded an average household audience share of 39.9% in Urban Luzon during the June 1 to 30 period. This was nearly 7 points more than rival ABS-CBN Corp.’s 33.1%.

The listed broadcaster said it garnered an average household audience share of 42.5% in Mega Manila, 13 points higher than ABS-CBN’s 29.4%.

GMA noted Urban Luzon and Mega Manila account for 77% and 60% of all urban TV households in the country, respectively.

Primetime news broadcast show 24 Oras earned the highest rating overall in Mega Manila, and topped the list of Kapuso programs in Urban Luzon, the company said. However, it did not give specific ratings data.

GMA said Nielsen based its findings on a nationwide sample size of 3,500 urban and rural homes.

The release of ratings data by GMA comes a day after ABS-CBN claimed the lead in national television ratings in June, citing data from a different research firm, Kantar Media.

Rival ABS- CBN said it cornered a 47% audience share in total day national TV viewership ( urban and rural) in June, 15 points higher than rival GMA’s 32%. Kantar Media used a nationwide panel size of 2,610 urban and rural homes.

GMA’s net income surged 148% to P1.013 billion for the first quarter of 2016, as consolidated revenues jumped 30% to P3.9 billion.

The company’s net income more than doubled to P2.1 billion in 2015, driven by higher ratings and recurring advertisements.

Shares in GMA slipped 1.1% to close at P6.30 apiece on Monday. —
