Cardona showing good signs after suicide attempt, says cager agent

VETERAN player Mac Cardona is showing good signs of recovery after a suicide attempt.

His agent, Danny Espiritu, told Fraulein Olavario of News 5 that the veteran cager became conscious before falling asleep again.

“I’ve heard from the news that he was able to open his eyes, then he fall asleep again,” said Espiritu, a well- known PBA agent, who handles the career of more than 50 players in the PBA.

News that Cardona, a veteran player of NLEX, committed suicide broke out after he couldn’t handle the pressure dealing with domestic problems, thus affecting his career in the PBA. He is currently confined at the Perpetual Help hospital.

Espiritu was told by NLEX management that Cardona skipped practices. The veteran cager, who led the league in scoring for a few seasons before his performance dipped down the past few years, has been put in the protected reserve list by the Road Warriors.

“I learned from team manager Ronald Dulatre that Mac Mac was skipping practices. He would attend once then would skip the practices again. So the management is asking me what his intentions are with the team,” added Espiritu.

Cardona’s contract with NLEX will expire at the end of the month and the player has been anxious about his future with the team based on his conversation with his agent last month.

“A month ago, he was so concerned about his contract with NLEX. I assured him, as his agent, I’m working on his behalf, talking to the coach and the manager of the team,” said Espiritu.

According to Espiritu, the reason why Cardona missed practices and his career has been affected was because of the domestic problems he had to deal with his girlfriend/ live-in partner.

“He told me, boss, I’m just dealing with problems at home. So I advised him to separate your domestic problem with your career,” added Espiritu. “I have many players dealing with similar situations, but they managed to separate domestic problems from their careers.”
