NBA and Knowledge Channel partner in ‘legacy’ project
THE National Basketball Association (NBA), through NBA Cares and NBA Store Philippines, and the Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI) recently partnered to support the latter’s programs for local education initiatives.
A “legacy project” which is how the parties described it, the tie-up has them partnering to provide multimedia facilities in some schools in Rizal province to facilitate learning among students and teachers in the area.
“For the NBA, a priority for us as well is to create spaces for kids and families to live and play. So obviously the partnership with the Knowledge Channel is to have a place to learn,” said NBA Philippines Managing Director Carlo Singson during the formal transfer of their check donation to the not-for-profit organization last Friday at the NBA Store in Glorietta 3.
“It’s always in our minds. Whenever we plan activities for the year, we also think of what we want to do. Social responsibilities are one of our priorities — how we can improve the lives of the Filipinos and our fans. We want to create legacy projects. This is one of it. We work on it and the effects are long term. Even when we leave, the benefits are there,” the NBA official added.
For their latest local project, which coincides with the 10th anniversary of NBA Cares, the NBA donated P235,000 to KCFI to help fund the foundation’s education program focused on providing multimedia learning resources for students in grades K-12 and training teachers from public schools, particularly the schools of Yapak, Talaga and Roman Tantiangco in Rizal.
The money came from part of the sales from Aug. 10 to Sept. 13 of the popular NBA Name & Number T- shirts sold in the three NBA Stores in the country, run and managed by International Athletic Trading Co., Inc. ( IATC).
“As an organization, we are aware of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and how achieving inclusive and quality education is a global priority. We value this opportunity to work with Knowledge Channel Foundation and I look forward to bringing this program to life as our own way of giving back to the Philippine education of the system,” said IATC President and Chief Executive Officer Melvin Lloyd Lim.
For the Knowledge Channel, which for 17 years now is helping empower the Filipinos through educational media, having the NBA as a partner is very significant in relation to what it wants to accomplish. —
