The President should create a Libingan ng mga Pangulo to end the vicious debate and ease the pain on all sides.
Events proved me right. The SC’s split decision allowing FM’s burial in the LNMB reflects the nation’s factionalism. President Duterte’s political capital has taken a hit. The door on martial law didn’t close; the nation didn’t unify; our wounds haven’t healed.
Sadly, the heirs allegedly still enjoy the fruits of the crime to buy justice and retain power. The sneaky burial before the SC could complete due process reeked of bad faith, true to form. Query: Is the VP post next?
The LNMB is a misnomer. There are personalities buried there who never served in the AFP or as President of the Philippines, or considered a national hero. Yet, “bayani” has been the center of controversy in the streets and social media. Today’s clash between ethics and raw power has created a new generation of protagonists; between millennials who were taught the lessons of history and to stand for what is right, and those who were not taught that truth and moral values are bedrocks of nation building.
The national uproar signifies that President Duterte and the SC miscalculated. But the situation can still be remedied, despite the lateness of the hour. We can still resolve matters and make things right.
The President, through LEDAC on his urgent request, should create a Libingan ng mga Pangulo to end the vicious debate and ease the pain on all sides.
