Glenn Aguilar dominates anew and wins second leg of Diamond Motor Supercross
MULTI-TITLED motocrosss champion Glenn Aguilar has no plans of slowing down and he stamped his old, deadly form over the weekend.
On his way to becoming the Greatest of All Time in Philippine Motocross, Aguilar ruled the second leg of the Diamond Motor Supercross over the weekend at the MX Messiah Fairgrounds in Taytay, Rizal.
Mr. Aguilar, who started playing basketball as a teenager before falling in love with motocross, subdued his closest pursuer Bornok Mangosong of Davao. The veteran campaigner did it despite lacking sleep, but that hardly matter in the course where he simply dominated on his way to putting himself closer to becoming the best ever motocross rider in local history.
The 42-year-old Aguilar, competing under KTM Racing, took his time and watched his younger counterpart setting the pace in the early goings before flexing his muscles in the third of the 25lap Pro Open class. He was never seriously threatened from there.
“I’m very happy,” said Mr. Aguilar, who won the overall title in last year’s edition of the series which feature country’s top rid- ers. The veteran rider pocketed P50,000 for winning the leg.
For Mr. Mangosong, beating Aguilar would need more than just bringing his A- game. He needs to do an A- plus and had to work on several aspects of his game, including his stamina.
“I need to improve my stamina,” said Mr. Mangosong, who also placed second in the first of the five- leg series organized by Xtreme Adrenaline Sports headed by Sam Tamayo of the Generation Congregation.
Nueva Ecija’s pride Pia Gabriel, as expected, dominated the DC Shoes Ladies Class. Gabriel needed to borrow the bike of her older brother Ompong but hardly encountered serious resistance from Quiana Reyes of Sta. Maria, Bulacan and Shana Tamayo.
The 19-year-old Masscom student from Wesleyan University in Cabanatuan City, went on to win her second straight leg, putting herself in a better position for the overall title of his series is supported by Dunlop Tires, Dickies, Tireshakk, Yamaha Motor Philippines, Go Pro Philippines, PTT Philippines Corp., DC Shoes Philippines, Coffee Grounds and Xtreme Adrenaline Sports Entertainment Co. —
