Philstar’s Dy Tioco topbills PMA’s 1st Agora Table

-

THE PHILIPPINE Marketing Association (PMA) recently held the first leg of the Agora Table Series, a by-invitation-only, intimate gathering of C-level executives and marketing thought leaders to talk about the latest trends and most important issues in different industries.

According to PMA President Arlene Martinez, the association aims to take an active role in bringing the country’s thought leaders to marketers, professionals and academicians. One way to do this is through organizing the annual PMA National Marketing Conference, now on its 48th year, where thought leaders from the country and the region are invited to share their valuable insights to Filipino marketers.

The latest advocacy project by the PMA is the Agora Table Series, with seven instalments throughout the year, wherein for each leg, one selected Agora Awardee and another expert in the topic will share their industry knowledge and forecast as well as their experiences on how they were able to successfully address the challenges that they encountered in their respective fields to chief executive officers and vicepresidents of leading companies.

For the first leg of the Agora Table Series, held at the Manila House in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig, Lucien C. Dy Tioco, The Philippine Star ( Philstar) and

BusinessWorld executive vice-president for sales and marketing and 2016 Agora Awardee for Outstanding Achievement in Marketing Communications; and Carlo Ople, vice-president for Digital Marketing Strategy, PLDT Enterprise and International Carrier Business, tackled the “Disruptive Technologies in Business and Marketing.”

Mr. Dy Tioco discussed how technology has disrupted a lot of businesses including the print media industry and how The Philippine Star and

BusinessWorld found ways to innovate and enhance their products and services to surpass this hurdle.

He shared that by creating a vision, forecasting and preparing, learning the art of leaping for the unknown, being able to respond, creating meaningful conversations and truthful engagement, and collaborating with the right partners, technology or digital can be an enabler to make things simple and to make the impossible happen.

Meanwhile, Mr. Ople shared the five key digital trends for this year. These include: prices of digital ads will go up; e-commerce wars will escalate; public Wi-Fi war will begin; rise of creators and “death” of influencers; and digital is all about culture.

The next Agora Table will focus on sustainability with Agora awardee Benjie Yap of Unilever Philippines, as one of the speakers.
