SoFA to hold 2-day interior design seminar
THE School of Fashion and the Arts (SoFA) Design Institute will be holding a two-day interior design seminar from April 27 to 28.
The two-day “Furnitute: Business. Design. Technology” seminar will include sessions with interior designer Ivy Almario on “Furniture as a Vehicle for Social Enterprise” and industrial designer, Stanley Ruiz on “Establishing Identity on International Design Competitions.”
Ms. Almario’s talk will focus on how “interior design elements, specifically furniture, can be an agent for social entrepreneurship,” according to a press release, while Mr. Ruiz will share his design process, his collections, and his professional views on international design competitions and “how transcultural designthinking can be an advantage in establishing a designer’s identity in the global arena.”
Ms. Almario is one-half of the well- know Atelier Almario, an interior design studio which she heads along with her sister, Cynthia Almario.
Among their projects were Cafe 1771 in Ortigas, and various residences in Forbes Park in Makati.
Mr. Ruiz, meanwhile is an award-winning designer (in 2013, he won the Bronze Award at the A’Design Awards in Como, Italy, among others) helming his own studio, the Estudio Ruiz Design Consultancy.
Nicolaas de Lange, CEO of Designs Ligna, Inc. will be talking about the “Furniture Design Business in the Philippines: Markets and Opportunities”
Mr. De Lange, who is also the Chairman of the Chamber of Furniture Industries in the Philippines (CFIP), will be discussing the different markets and opportunities for interior designers planning to run a furniture business in the Philippines.
Designs Ligna, Inc., is an almost 50-year-old company whose designs early on “introduced a new perspective to the art of interior decorating in Manila,” according to the company Web site. Its products are now available in 17 countries.
On the second day, participants will be hearing from Salvio Valenzuela, Jr., executive director of CFIP on the “Policies in the Philippines Furniture Industry,” he will be “examining the important legal and technical policies governing the furniture business in the country,” said the press release.
He will be followed by industrial designer, Chuck dela Rama, whose talk on “Digital Fabrication: The Future of Furniture Design” will discuss “various technologies and benefits of digital fabrication.”
The SoFa Interior Design Seminar will be held on April 27 to 28 at the Ronac Lifestyle Center, Magallanes Ave., Makati City. Registration is from 8-10 a.m. The seminar will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Early registration rates are P3,500 ( one- day pass), P6,000 ( two- day pass), while walk- in rates are P4,000 ( one day) and P7,000 (two-day pass).
