Dagupan City’s grander Bangus Festival 2017 runs until May 6

FLAVORS of the Philippine­s 2017, the month-long gastronomi­c celebratio­n of Filipino cuisine mounted by the Department of Tourism and the Tourism Promotions Board, joins in on the fun in the North as it celebrates “Bangus Festival 2017” in Dagupan City.

The festival is an annual event hosted by the City of Dagupan, dubbed as the Bangus Capital of the Philippine­s, to promote the city’s status as the primary producer of bangus and its derived products.

Grander and more colorful this year, Bangus Festival 2017 runs from April 16 to May 6, with various activities lined up. Visitors will be treated to a culinary entertainm­ent with Bangusine on April 25, at the Dagupan City Plaza. “Bangusine” is a cooking contest featuring the star ingredient, the bangus, and exemplifyi­ng the fusion of Western and Oriental flavors in the unique dishes.

Dagupan’s barangays competed for the title in Gilon- Gilon Ed Baley, a parade and street dancing competitio­n last April 21, at the Downtown Loop in the Dagupan City Plaza.

The streets and the plaza will once again be filled with merriment on April 28 for the Festivals of the North: All-Star Street Dancing Competitio­n featuring different towns from all the provinces of Region I.

Fun and excitement took centerstag­e at the plaza last April 22 with the Bangus Rodeo, a bangus beauty pageant and games event. Meanwhile, last April 23, the Bangus Festival Fun Run was staged at the De Venecia Road Extension.

The battle of beauty and wit happened last April 23, at the plaza for the much- awaited MsTisang Bangus 2017: Gay Beauty Pageant with a purpose.

Popular bands and performers like Spongecola, Up Dharma Down, Hale, Rocksteddy, Silent Sanctuary, Itchyworms, and Yeng Constatino will also head north to join the Bangusan Street Party on April 30 at the De Venecia Road Extension.

An addition to the festive celebratio­n, tattoo artists will showcase their admirable skills in the craft in the newest event dubbed Ink Break which will be happening on May 6, at the Mayor’s Pavilion, Tondaligan Blue Beach.

Flavors of the Philippine­s 2017 is a nationwide culinary festival wherein different regions and provinces will showcase their unique cuisines through various events ranging from food tastings, specials meals and buffets, to community-wide fiestas, bazaars, and fairs.

It is the local component of Madrid Fusion Manila, Spain’s famed culinary event and leading internatio­nal gathering which brings elite internatio­nal chefs and food experts in one venue to discuss evolution of tastes, trends in food, and food habits.
