Davao City to spend P43M for police auxiliaries

- Carmencita A. Carillo

THE DAVAO City government has allocated P43 million for the allowance of a police auxiliary force that is being activated starting this month. “Our investment for their honorarium is P43 million in the next eight months and we want to see, that we will see the results of our investments in terms of reduced crime rate,” said Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio in an interview. A total of 910 volunteers are undergoing training this week, and only those who will pass the exercises will be included in the civilian force intended to be the “buddies” and “extra eyes and ears” of the police, according to city police chief Sr. Supt. Alexander C. Tagum. Ms. Duterte-Carpio said the training is part of the effort to “professionalize” the recruitment process for the auxiliary force, wherein the mayor nor barangay chairman will have to say in the selection of members. —
