DAVAO CITY — The soon-to-be launched Azuela Cove of the Ayala and Alsons groups, the latest of several mixed-use projects rising here, will feature a 2,000-square meter events tent that can accommodate up to 1,500 people, a first in the city.

Aviana Development Corp., the joint venture formed by Ayala Land, Inc. (ALI) and the Alcantara Group, said in a statement that the tent, “an ideal venue for banquets, wedding receptions, conferences, seminars, exhibits, and more,” would be among the first components of the project, with development work set to start this year.

The initial project phase would also include a condominium tower as well as commercial space for retail shops and dining.

The 25-hectare development, located in the old plywood factory of the Alcantara Group in the city’s Lanang area, will also have a fitness facility, a soccer field and multipurpose sports court, and a park for outdoor activities.

“Over the years, Ayala Land has been committed to enriching the way we live and enhancing land nationwide,” ALI Vice-President Aniceto V. Bisnar, Jr. said in the statement.

“We continue to build mixed-use estates around the country not only because of the country’s economic growth, but also because of the continued trust and confidence of Ayala Land’s customers and clients,” he added.

Aviana Development Corp. said the first phase of Azuela Cove is expected to generate about 5,000 jobs.

On May 30, the joint venture also signed a memorandum of agreement with St. Luke’s Medical Center for the construction of a health care facility within the project.
