AboitizPower subsidiary signs power supply agreement with Eton Properties

- Victor V. Saulon

ABOITIZ Power Corp. said its renewable energy subsidiary had signed up Lucio Tan’s Eton Properties Philippines, Inc. to a power supply contract covering 5.2 megawatts ( MW) from its geothermal power plant in Batangas province.

In a statement on Sunday, AboitizPower said the power from its MakBan geothermal power plant will be used by the real estate company for the operations of its “Cyberpod” office buildings at Eton Centris in Quezon City.

The Aboitiz energy arm said Eton Properties’ decision to sign a power supply contract was prompted by its plan to create more office spaces that are environment-friendly along with continuous growth in the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry.

“BPO operations need uninterruptible, round- the- clock power supply, especially here in the Philippines where majority of BPO companies cater to international customers with different time zones,” Eton Properties Deputy Chief Operating Officer Josefino C. Lucas was quoted as saying in a statement.

“With AboitizPower as our power partner, we are confident that we will continue to deliver on our promise of quality and efficiency in our office developments,” Mr. Lucas added.

AboitizPower said Eton Properties has two BPO hubs — Centris Cyberpod at Eton Centris, where a fifth BPO-ready building is under construction, and Corinthian Cyberpod on Ortigas Ave.

The power supply will come from the 1,200 MW net sellable capacity of AboitizPower and its partners in renewable energy projects.

AboitizPower, which markets renewable energy under its Cleanergy brand, has a portfolio of geothermal, hydro and solar power plants in the country’s main island groups.

The MakBan plant is operated and managed by AboitizPower unit AP Renewables, Inc.

AboitizPower is currently completing the construction of two more projects — the 69-MW Manolo Fortich run- of- river hydro project in Bukidnon and the 8-MW Maris Canal hydro project in Isabela. Its first biomass power plant in Batangas through subsidiary Aseagas Corp. in scheduled to move in the commissioning phase.

The contract with Eton Properties comes after AboitizPower last month said it had signed Nestlé Philippines, Inc. to a supply contract from the power produced by the MakBan plant.
