WITH OVER 100 years of experience in the industry, Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporatio­n has become one of the country’s leading energy companies. With a portfolio of business interests in the Philippine­s’ oil and gas industry, such as production, oil refining, distributi­on and sales, the company has been making significan­t contributi­ons to the country’s energy sector since its operations started in 1914.

The world is slowly turning towards a future with clean and renewable energy. Shell, as an industry leader, is using the practical knowledge it has gained through its century- long history to lead in the Philippine­s’ progress toward that future. The company is driving technology and innovation towards cleaner and more efficient energy solutions with its New Lens Scenarios planning program, as well as the Shell Eco- Marathon, which challenges students all over the world to design and build the most energy- efficient car. invited Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporatio­n President & CEO Cesar G. It started its operations in 1914, and has grown to be one of the Philippine­s’ largest investors, employing over 4,000 people nationwide. Global demand for energy is rising, driven by a growing population with rising living standards. With this comes the energy challenge, “How will the world produce more and cleaner energy to power our homes and fuel our vehicles in the coming decades while reducing CO2 emissions that cause climate change?”

Shell has been preparing for the challenges of a lower- carbon future for some time through our scenarios planning. Our New Lens Scenarios describe plausible futures, where renewable energy sources like solar and wind could provide up to 40% of energy globally by 2060, and the sun could become the world’s largest primary energy source a decade later.

We are using our know-how, technology and innovation to deliver more, cleaner energy to help meet the world’s growing needs, find ways to use energy more efficientl­y. We also work with partners, communitie­s, government­s and others to do this in environmen­tally and socially responsibl­e ways. Our people are central to the delivery of our strategy — a diverse work force and an inclusive work environmen­t are vital to our success, leading to greater innovation and better solutions.

Working together on some of the most innovative and exciting energy projects in the country, everyone at Shell is cognizant that we are making an impact on the future of energy. Profession­al/developmen­tal training and ongoing support mean that our people are given every opportunit­y to reach their potential. the installati­on of 1- kVA solar panels, constructi­on of a pico- hydro system, restoratio­n of backup diesel generators and powerhouse, and installati­on of power lines and 26 electric posts ( 15 with overhead lights). Power was provided to 42 households ( 36 connected to the grid, six with solar home system), a school building, a community church, including a livelihood and training center.

Meanwhile, SEM is one of the world’s most innovative and unique competitio­ns held annually in Asia, the Americas and Europe. It challenges students to design, build and drive the most energy- efficient car — to test which goes the furthest on the least amount of fuel. The advocacy draws inspiratio­n from the Shell Group’s global campaign on smarter mobility.
