Days of wine and... more wine

WINE IS entangled in French history and identity, and Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila pays tribute to its French roots with its annual Sofitel Wine Days promotion, which is being held until the end of October.

The promotion was kicked off on Sept. 19 with the Sky-High Soirée: Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite Cocktails which was slated to be held at the Sofitel helipad, but due to the inclement weather, was moved inside to its Imperial Suite. The event featured wines from one of the most renowned Bordeaux châteaux, Château Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite. The chateau has been in existence in the 13th century, and was already known for producing wines fit for royalty until the French Revolution. In the 19th century, it was acquired by the French branch of the famed Rothschild banking family. The wines produced by the estate were given further notice in Napoleon III’s legendary 1855 Classification, which aimed to divide into classes by quality the wines produced in the Bordeaux region, and established its fame throughout the world.

In any case, the rest of the promotion will offer similarly luxurious experiences. Every Sunday Brunch from Sept. 24 until Oct. 29, Spiral features vintages from renowned wine regions including Argentina, the Loire Valley, Burgundy, California, and Australia. Guests may delight their taste buds with a variety of artisanal wine and champagne jams.

On Oct. 17, guests may taste the world’s most expensive champagnes as Spiral presents The Bubbly: Exclusive Champagne Tasting featuring top-tiered vintages Moët &Chandon, Krug, and Dom Pérignon exclusively for only 10 guests.

Sofitel’s sommeliers will also educate guests on The Art of Wine via a wine appreciation class on Oct. 19.

On Oct. 22, Spiral presents a Vendange Brunch featuring a tasting of 40 different wines produced in regions that harvest in the month of October. Guests may also get a glimpse of old-style grape stomping during the event — the few times where making a mess can actually be the height of chic.

During the promotion, every Sunday, a Private Wine and Cheese Pairing Class will be held in Spiral’s L’Epicerie, an exclusive engagement for 10 guests per session.
