EDWIN R. BAUTISTA

ASSUMES NEW POST AS UNIONBANK CEO

-

Seasoned banker and UnionBank veteran President Edwin R. Bautista assumed his role as the new Chief Executive Officer ( CEO) of Union Bank of the Philippines effective Jan. 1, 2018.

Mr. Bautista replaces Justo A. Ortiz, Ph. D, who remains as Chairman of the Board.

Ortiz, himself a legendary CEO whose remarkable vision helped propel UnionBank to become one of the country’s top 10 banks today, will continue to monitor successful execution of the Bank’s major strategic development plans.

With over 25 years of comprehensive banking experience - 20 years of which have been at UnionBank - Bautista is known for being an innovative growth driver in key businesses such as Transaction Banking, Commercial Banking, Operations and Consumer Finance Centers since joining the bank as Senior Vice President in 1997.

Currently, he is also Director of UnionBank, City Savings Bank, Inc., and Union Properties, Inc., and Chairman of First Union Plans, Inc.

When he became President and COO in January 2016, Bautista immediately buckled down with plans to transform UnionBank into a digital bank amid these rapidly- changing times.

Since then, UnionBank has reached even greater heights, posting record-high profit of P10.1 billion in 2016 and winning numerous prestigious awards, most recent of which are the Best Universal Bank Philippines 2017 from London- based journal CFI. co, Strongest Bank Philippines 2017 from Asian Banker, Best Digital Bank Philippines 2017 from Asiamoney, a Gold STEVIE Award for being the Best Employer in the field of Banking 2017 from the American Business Awards, and the International Diamond Prize for Excellence in Quality 2017 from the Swissbased European Society for Quality Research.

Supporting Bautista’s crucial role is a stellar cast of UnionBank executives led by Senior Executive Vice Presidents ( SEVPs) Eugene S. Acevedo, Jose Emmanuel U. Hilado and Henry R. Aguda.

Collectively, these three SEVPs have over 60 years of senior management experience.

Acevedo also serves as Chairman of City Savings Bank, Inc., UnionBank’s thrift-bank arm. He was previously President, Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Philippine National Bank.

Hilado, the Bank’s Chief Finance Officer and Treasurer, was previously the Chief Operating Officer of EastWest Bank. He also served as Treasurer of RCBC and Private Bank Treasurer of BDO.

Aguda, the Bank’s Chief Technology and Operations Officer and Chief Transformation Officer, was formerly the COO and CFO of Nextel. While most of his career has been in the telecommunications industry, occupying a lot of technical positions, he also performed senior executive roles in finance, business operations, sales and marketing and general management. With a wealth of experience and a seasoned, diversely-capable team, Bautista remains confident in continuing UnionBank’s quest to build “a Bank of Enduring Greatness” — with no one left behind.
