Colgate ties up with DepEd for Philippine Anti-Cavity Campaign
COLGATE recently announced the start of its Philippine Anti-Cavity Campaign (PACC) in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) and Local Government Units. This year-long initiative is one of the biggest grassroots programs of Colgate to date as it aims for better oral health in the Philippines and strives to provide Filipino families across the country more reasons to smile.
Through the PACC, Colgate and DepEd are targeting to touch the lives of public school students throughout the year. The program includes on-ground activities, namely oral health education, tooth brushing drills, free dental check-ups and fluoride application.
About 300 children from Caloocan City participated in the launch event. In attendance to show their support are local government officials from the host city, led by Mayor Oscar Malapitan, and representatives from the Department of Education, headed by Rizalino Rosales, Director IV, Bureau of Learner Support Services.
“The 2006 National Oral Healthy Survey revealed that 97.1% of six-year-old children and 78.4% of twelve-year-old children suffer from dental caries or tooth decay. One cannot underestimate the pain of school children who suffer from tooth decay, adding to the various reasons why many of them would not report to school,” Mr. Rosales shared. “DepEd appreciates Colgate-Palmolive Philippines for recognizing this need and addressing it in order to build for our school children and our country a future they can smile about.”
