Change in Davao City foundation day awaits Senate approval

-

A BILL sponsored by Davao City 2nd District Rep. Mylene G. Albano, which was passed by the House of Representatives and is now under deliberation in the Senate, seeks to change the city’s founding anniversary to the original date of March 1 from the current March 16. “The Senate is now finalizing the bill which will hopefully be signed by the President this year,” Councilor J. Melchor B. Quitain, Jr. said. Mr. Quitain said historical documents and markers support the March 1 date and stressed the importance of observing this. “Our landmarks show that it is March 1,” City Tourism Officer Gene Rose D. Tecson said. This year, the Araw ng Davao celebration will start on March 1, and will culminate on March 16 with the Parada Dabawenyo. —
