36 illegal aliens, mostly Koreans, arrested in Pasay

THE BUREAU of Immigratio­n (BI) arrested on Monday 36 foreigners, mostly Koreans, who were illegally staying in the country and involved in illegal online gaming operations. In a press release on Tuesday, Immigratio­n Intelligen­ce Chief Fortunato S. Manahan, Jr. said operations based at the Double Dragon Plaza Tower 3 in Pasay City was discovered to be engaged in illegal live studio gambling. Of those arrested, 32 are Koreans, two Chinese, and two Indonesian­s. “Apart from the live studio, they were also conducting illegal and clandestin­e online gaming operations,” Mr. Manahan said. Immigratio­n Commission­er Jaime H. Morente said they have confirmed from the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporatio­n “that this company is unlicensed and has no authority to operate.” The illegal aliens will be subject to deportatio­n proceeding­s. —
