HOW MUCH DID EACH COMMODITY GROUP CONTRIBUTE TO JUNE INFLATION?
The Philippines saw its inflation rate — or the general rise in the price level of an economy — grow at its slowest pace in six months in June. During the month, headline inflation reached 4.1% while the inflation rate experienced by the bottom 30% of income households stood at 4.3%. This infographic shows how much each of the major commodities contributed to the level of inflation for both groups. The heavily weighted food and non-alcoholic beverages continued to chip in the most during the period with 1.9 percentage points (ppts) to the headline inflation and 2 ppts for the bottom 30% inflation. The June performance also exhibited similar trends from previous months with transport contributing as much a 0.7 ppts to inflation. Moreover, price movements in recreation and culture were flat during the month, reflecting the current state of the economy amid ongoing lockdowns.
