WNBL season’s successful kickoff; Glutance opening-day winner
THE inaugural season of the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) successfully kicked off on Sunday at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando, Pampanga, with the Glutance Glow Boosters emerging as opening-day winners.
Glutagance defeated Pacific Water Queens, 72-55, in the first game of the Pia Cayetano WNBL 2021 season.
Former University Athletic Association of the Philippines most valuable player Raiza Palmera-Dy led the attack of the Glow Boosters as she finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and three steals in the league’s debut game as a professional league.
Camille Claro and Khate Castillo had 11 points each and combined for five triples in the match that was close during the first two quarters until the Glow Boosters made a run and outscored the Queens, 23-15, in the third.
Snow Peñaranda led Pacific Water with 28 points and 16 rebounds in a gallant effort.
Glutagence will look to make it two in a row on Saturday, 1 p.m. as it battles the Quezon Lady SparTAN.
The long-awaited kickoff of the pro season of the WNBL finally happened after it got the go signal of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) and the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) with the understanding that it will adhere to strict health and safety protocols.
The new WNBL season is being played under a venue-homevenue setup and audience is strictly prohibited.
