Italian wine labels take center stage via tasting session
AWINE-TASTING sessioncum-seminar of the International Exhibition Management, in partnership with the Italian Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines and Grandi Marchi, recently promoted Italian wines to potential buyers and importers in the country composed of food and beverage representatives, as well as tradesmen.
Billed “Discover the Iconic Wines of Grandi Marchi, Italy’s Premium Brands,” the guided tasting seminar saw participation of wineries from Taipei and Manila, which included Argiolas, Carpenė Malvolti, Lungarotti, Masi Agricola, Mastroberardino, Michele Chiarlo, Pio Cesare, Tasca d’Almerita and Umani Ronchi.
Made up of 19 prestigious Italian wine families, Grand Marchi upholds Italy’s best wine and producers on a global scale. The strength of this institution is built upon the fact that all are family-owned brands, with each member having been in operation for at least 25 years and in some cases, for centuries. All their estate vineyards, which stand out for their history and enduring traditions, are all recognized worldwide for their superior quality and production practices.
Considered innovators with profound vision, all members are key players representing Italy’s most highly praised wines, and are industry leaders. They share the same values and strategies, as well as support collaborative efforts. Every one is committed to a continued focus on education, innovation and developing markets, exemplifying the best of their region.
“Master of Wines” Mark Pygott addressed the audience: “As we all appreciate in this room, wine is simply exceptional. There exists a market for high-quality Italian wine.”
He continued, “In every bottle, you should see everything you need to help convince any consumer or customer of yours that the value and validity of these wines are significant.”
Together with Pygott, nine wine experts represented their respective wineries, with the same number of glasses laid out before them. Each guided the audience in sharing the history and unique characteristics of their wine, as everyone in the room sipped simultaneously—glass after glass.
In a separate venue inside the hotel, more wine tasting ensued. It provided a relaxed environment for attendees to sample other varieties of wine while they interacted with Italian producer and exporters.
Worth mentioning is the fact that Italy holds the distinction of being the world’s largest wine producer. It boasts of 20 wine regions, which each having many more subregions and hundreds of grapes varieties. Family, the kind of grape and territory are factors that result in the wonderful synergy of winemaking in the boot-shaped peninsula.
