- By Manuel T. Cayon @awimailbox Mindanao Bureau Chief

DAVAO CITY—Small-business owners operating in this city are reaping success after linking up with the Internet for their product promotion and sales, the regional Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) office here reported on Thursday.

In its year-end report, the DTI listed 248 micro-small businesses with under P3-million capitalization, that experienced a big boost on sales by adopting online selling as an added marketing strategy.

Romeo L. Castañaga, DTI provincial director of Davao del Norte, said the program generated enthusiasm from the first batch of business owners who attended the training program with the Department of Information and Communication Technology on linking their businesses to the Internet.

The first graduates of that training earned P2 million in just 20 days of e-commerce practice, he told a media briefing on Thursday during the DTI’s presentation of its year-end report at the Pinnacle Hotel here. “One of them earned P1.4 million. They found it amazing,” he said.

Rachel S. Remitio, chief of the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) division, said e-commerce has attracted the small businesses with the increasing awareness and adaption of online selling concept.

“That training conducted teaches them with the details of e-commerce and how to install them into their respective business operations, toward developing their own web site,” Remitio told the BusinessMirror.
