THE National University women’s basketball team of Coach Patrick Aquino will receive the Award of Excellence in the 2019 Collegiate Press Corps Awards set on Monday at the Amelie Hotel-Manila in Malate, Manila.

The Bulldogs are being honored not only for completing a rare “five-peat” in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), but as importantly by going undefeated in 80 games to set a new record for the longest winning streak in collegiate sports.

This will be the second time that the Collegiate Press Corps will honor achievers from the women’s division after bestowing the same honor to NU’s Afril Bernardino last year.

Also set to be honored are Ateneo’s Angelo

Kouame and San Beda’s Javee Mocon as the season’s Pivotal Players, while Lyceum of the Philippines University’s CJ Perez and Adamson University’s Sean Manganti will be cited as the Impact Players.

The Ivorian Kouame announced his entry to the Blue Eagles not just by winning the Rookie of the Year award, but also by becoming the rock down low for the Katipunan side’s back-to-back UAAP title conquests.

Mocon emerged as one of the top figures in the Red Lions’ “three-peat” accomplishment, leading to him being named as the Finals Most Valuable Player.

Perez, on the other hand, led the Pirates to their second straight Finals appearance in his last playing year, while Manganti was the big difference for the Soaring Falcons in their Final Four run this season.
