DTI’S EMB to hold webinar on Halal logistics on Aug 12

-

THE demand for e-commerce in the Philippines has further shifted the shopping culture of cash centric and face-to-face toward a more digital, and is expected to continue as the threat of Covid-19 still looms. The shift also alleviates the challenge of proper digital and logistics infrastructure to fully enable digital economy in the country.

Logistics play an integral part toward the shift of digital culture. It is part of the network that links the upstream and downstream of supply chain activities, which involves parties such as the suppliers, the agents, the manufacturer, third-party providers, distributors, retailers, and finally, the customers.

With the increase of the e-commerce activity in the country, DTI Undersecretary for Trade Promotions Group Abdulgani Macatoman has seen that there is also a need to address the gap of halal logistics to maintain the integrity of the halal products from farm to fork. It is timely and relevant that we finally push for halal logistics to ensure compliance in the value chain, Macatoman said.

Likewise, Section 4 of Republic Act 10817 established the Philippine Halal Export Development and Promotion Program, which shall refer to the comprehensive set of objectives, targets, strategies and activities for the growth of halal industries producing or providing products, processes and services and resulting in increased exports of halal products. It shall include industry development and promotion, including expansion into non-food halal products and services; consumer awareness and fair-trade practices; and provision of common service facilities.

The trade department’s Export Marketing Bureau (EMB) is set to conduct the webinar on halal logistics in the Philippines on August 12, 2021 via Zoom. The proposed speakers for the said activity will be from the halal certification bodies, business support organizations and other relevant government offices. This activity is under the Program Support category among the three modes of intervention of the EMB in support of the Philippine Halal Export Development and Promotion Program.
