WORKERS, who will be on duty on Monday, will get twice their regular pay as thecountrycelebratesnationalheroes Day, according to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

This after President Rodrigo R. Duterte declared the event as a regular holiday.

“For work done by employees during the regular holiday, they shall be paid 200 percent of their wage for the first eight hours,” Labor and Employment Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III said in a statement.

Also during the holiday, he said employeeswillget30percentoftheirhourly rate in case they work overtime and an additional 30 percent of their basic pay if it coincides with their rest day.

Bello said workers, who will opt to spend the National Heroes Day on vacation, must still be paid 100 percent of their regular pay.

The regular holiday is held every last week of August to commemorate the country’s heroes.

Labor groups and other sectors also usually celebrate the event through demonstrations.

On Monday, health-care workers unions in private hospitals will hold their National Heroes Day demonstration to call for better benefits for those employed in their sector especially amid the existing risk they face due to the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

The protesters will be demanding for the immediate release of their special risk allowance, meals, accommodation, and transportation allowance and other benefits under Bayanihan to Recover as One Act (Bayanihan 2) and the removal of Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque III from office.
