PSC congratulates PHL female athletes’ gold achievements
THE Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) extended the government’s gratitude to the country’s female athletes who booked international gold medalwinning performances in karate, weightlifting and football.

Junna Tsukii opened the month with her gold medal in kumite of karate at The World Games in Birmingham, Alabama.
Filipino-japanese Tsukii who was accompanied by her foreign coach Okay Arpa and Karate Pilipinas Sports Federation Inc. President and Team Manager Richard Lim, received P1.3 million in financial assistance from the PSC covering her airfare, accommodation, PCR test, US Visa fee, and allowances for training, transportation and competition.
She will receive a P1 million financial incentive for her gold medal under Republic Act 10699.
Rose Jean Ramos won four gold, one silver and one bronze medals in the women’s 45 kgs class at the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Ramos swept all the gold medals in youth category with her 70 kgs in snatch, 83 kgs in clean and jerk and 153 kgs in total lift.
She also snatched one gold, one silver and one bronze medals in the junior competition.
Angeline Colonia won two golds and one silver medal and broke the new Asian and World Youth record in women’s 40 kgs class after lifting 62 kgs in snatch and 72 kgs in clean and jerk for a total lift of 134 kgs in the same Tashkent tournament.
The winning weightlifters are part of the 17-member national team composed of 13 athletes and four coaches in Tashkent. The team received P5.5 million financial support from the PSC for airfare, accommodation, entry and visa fees and travel insurance.
The sports agency also funded the national team’s local training and preparation for the worlds amounting to P85,000 at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex from July 10 to 12.
The national women’s football team, meanwhile, made history by winning the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Women’s Championship, dethroning four-time champion Thailand in the final, 3-0.
The PSC provided venues and technical working staff to oversee the operations of the championship.
“Such honors inspire us even more to support the aspirations of our Filipino athletes, especially the young ones,” Iroy said. “We’re grateful for all their sacrifices and love for the country.”
