LABit Dx, in partnership with The Sandy Project, joined Ford Club Philippines’ community service event in Bahay at Yaman ni San Martin de Porres in Bulacan to educate and raise dengue awareness for the children.

The LABit team, together with the volunteers from The Sandy Project conducted a storytelling activity explaining Sandy’s wishes and dreams in order to help the children to be protected from a dreadful disease, known as dengue. Sandy is the 10-year old daughter of The Sandy Project founder Atty. Peaches Aranas who died due to complications caused by the mosquitoborne disease.

LABit Dx President Therese Perez, and Attorney Peaches discussed preventative measures on how to combat dengue in simple ways such as observing cleanliness in the environment and to remain vigilant in monitor- ing their own health.

As part of their advocacy to instill proactive measures against the deadly disease, LABit donated dengue test kits to the orphanage management and provided a separate demonstration on how to use the test kits properly.

Each child also received a small gift from The Sandy Project, which contained a pair of slippers and Sandy’s storybook.

Bahay at Yaman ni San Martin de Porres is an or- phanage that provides shelter for over 200 street children from various poverty-stricken areas of Metro Manila.

“Here in Bahay at Yaman ni San Martin de Porres, we believe that all initiatives for the children are part of God’s will, and we believe that this event is part of His will to extend help and knowledge for them. It is heartwarming to see that everyone from LABit, The Sandy Project and Ford Club Philippines took their time out to share their day with the children,” said Sister Adora of Bahay at Yaman ni San Martin de Porres.

The project in Bustos, Bulacan is LABit and The Sandy Project’s kick-start event in educating and raising dengue awareness. Both organizations will continue to collaborate and conduct dengue talks for the public, especially the children, who are most vulnerable when it comes to the deadly disease.

Aside from this activity, both organizations will continue to work together for another dengue event in Caloocan for 600 children.

“Our shared advocacy with The Sandy Project is only the start of our continuous battle against dengue. We have to realize that children, who are the future shapers of the country, may fall victim to this deadly disease,” said LABit Dx President Perez.
