Gov’t eyes P7B POGO back taxes
With its continued effort to capture errant Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO), the government expects a sum of at least P7 billion worth of income from issued notices on such gaming firms. This was learned from Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Caesar Dulay as he noted on the additional letter notices issued by the agency amounting to P3 billion. This, adds up to the P4 billion earlier estimate by the Department of Finance.
According to Dulay, the now totaled amount reflects the possible tax revenue for the 138,000 foreign employees working in the Philippines, whether they are or not registered with respective government offices.
BIR Deputy Commissioner Arnel Guballa noted that they will be stricter with their regulations, requiring those unregistered foreign workers to have their tax identification numbers (TIN), helping the government speed up its tax-collecting process.
“Actually, ongoing processing ng TIN. 100 percent
TIN (138,000),” Guballa told finance reporters on the sidelines of the ceremonial signing of joint memorandum circular (JMC) on foreign nationals.
According to the JMC, foreign nationals who wish to work in the country must now register at their respective embassies and have their TIN before applying for a job here. The BIR executive also noted that they still have to consolidate interagency data to come up with the final number for those registered and unregistered foreign workers.
