President Rodrigo Duterte will shoulder the funeral expenses of an 11-month-old baby who died of complications of biliary atresia in India.

Baby Eren Crisologo was flown to India last June, with the assistance of the President and Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, to seek medical treatment for biliary atresia, a rare disease of the liver and bile ducts.

Unfortunately, Crisologo succumbed to complications and was flown back to Davao City on Sunday.

Go said that the President, who was present when the remains of the baby arrived, vowed to shoulder the funeral expenses of Crisologo, a daughter of a Philippine Army soldier who sought assistance from them.

“The President will take care of all the expenses including the child’s burial,” vowed Go.

The President and Go have helped several other children with biliary atresia to undergo transplants in India.

“All children who have severe illnesses can approach the President, especially children of soldiers, we will help them,” said Go.

The senator is a known advocate of health care and the “father” of Malasakit Centers aimed at helping the poor and those who cannot afford medical services.

Earlier, Go attended the launching of the Malasakit Center at the Valenzuela City Emergency Hospital — the 17th in Luzon and the 40th nationwide which was led by Secretary Michael Lloyd Dino of the Office of Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (OPAV) and City Mayor Rex Gatchalian.

OPAV was a partner of the Office of the Special Assistant to the President in establishing earlier Malasakit Centers when Go was still with the executive branch.

“This Malasakit Center started when I, your Kuya Bong, was still Special Assistant to the President. I proposed this to the President because in my 20 years of serving him I saw how big a problem it was for Filipinos whenever a family member gets sick,” Go said.
