‘BANIG‘ TAKES CENTER STAGE IN VEGAS
TACLOBAN CITY — The banig revolution is finally going global.
LARA, a visionary brand transforming the Samar banig into contemporary fashion creations, was handpicked by the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions of the Department of Trade and Industry as one of the eight representatives to PROJECT WOMENS at the MAGIC trade show in Las Vegas on 12-14 August.
Coming from the Waray word which means to weave, LARA will fittingly showcase woven bags and shoes in their exhibit carrying the award-winning AMON Collection.
AMON, which means “ours,” features the endemic birds found in the province of Samar wherein the main highlight of the collection is the Tamsi (or bird) banig bag, which has been nominated for the Katha Awards.
PROJECT WOMENS is the ultimate destination for contemporary collections for apparel and accessories, as well as emerging noteworthy and cause-oriented brands all over the world, where over 500 representatives are expected to participate.
Additionally, it also gives buyers access to a collection of the best emerging and established women’s brands as the ultimate destination for contemporary collections, denim and accessories, wherein there is a focus on Conscious Collections which showcases sustainable and cause-oriented brands.
LARA is the brainchild of former Samar Governor and now Congresswoman Sharee Ann Tan in support of the members of Basey Association for Native Industry Growth. It is also part of the Spark Samar Tourism Campaign of the province.
In April this year, LARA bagged the Best Product Design award in the fashion design category at the 69th Edition of the Manila FAME Katha Awards held at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.
