Media hub rising in Visayas

- By Kristina Maralit

Another state-of-the-art media hub is about to rise, this time in the Visayas, before the term of President Rodrigo Duterte ends, Communications Secretary Martin Andanar disclosed.

According to the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) chief, the planned facility is expected to be built in Cebu and completed by 2021.

“Hopefully by 2021, Visayas will have its own (media hub), because that was our agreement with (former Budget) Secretary Ben Diokno before,” Andanar said in a recent radio interview.

“I will also bring this up with (new) Secretary (Wendel) Avisado. Once the Mindanao Media Hub is finished, by next year we will make a request for the Visayas Media Hub to be put up in Cebu,” he added.

The official further said that building communication centers for state-owned media outlets have started to be incorporated into the Duterte administration’s “Build, Build, Build” blueprint.

“We pray that this really comes to fruition because the government media also needs to be part of the ‘Build, Build, Build.’ It’s been a long time coming,” Andanar stated.

“So, this is it. This is the time to have our own Build, Build, Build for government media,” the former news anchor added.

Meanwhile, construction of the Mindanao Media Hub in Davao City is now 90 percent complete, Andanar shared.

Once fully operational, it will serve as the home of government-run entities People’s Television Network, Radyo Pilipinas, News and Information Bureau, Philippine News Agency, Philippine Information Agency, National Printing Office, Apo Production Unit, and other attached agencies and offices under the PCOO in the south.
