Tourist arrivals reach 4.1 million
More than 4.1 million international tourists visited the Philippines from January to June this year, according to the Department of Tourism (DoT).
The record arrival is 11.5 percent higher than from the same period last year.
In June alone, 643,780 arrivals have been recorded, which is 21.41 percent higher than the 530,267 arrivals in June last year.
Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat attributed the increase to the new, re-built, or refurbished airports in the country.
South Koreans lead the majority of visitors followed by the Chinese, Americans, Japanese and Taiwanese.
The DoT is also happy with the decision of US Homeland Security to rescinded its public notice on travel to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport following the “significant improvements” in the Philippine gateway’s security operations.
