Navy ships conduct exercises
Maximizing their journey from South Korea, two Philippine Navy (PN) ships, including the newly-acquired BRP Conrado Yap (PS39), will hold group sail and naval maneuvers en route to Manila.
In a statement, the PN said that BRP Conrado Yap will meet BRP Davao Del Sur (LD602) at sea for the naval exercises.
“The ex-Pohang-class corvette (PS39) will meet BRP Davao Del Sur (LD602) at sea for a group sail and conduct naval maneuvers while en route to Manila,” the PN said.
On Monday, BRP Conrado Yap has already left Jinhae Naval Base after being turned over by the Republic of Korea Navy to PN.
“It is now under the control of its more than a hundred maiden crew led by the Commanding Officer, Capt. Marco Buena, who underwent 13 weeks of necessary operational and warfare trainings in South Korea,” the Navy said.
BRP Davao Del Sur had just participated in the Russian Navy Day in Vladivostok last month.
“It proceeded to South Korea to accompany home the newly commissioned corvette,” the PN stated.
The two Navy ships are expected to arrive in Manila in less than a week and will be welcomed by another PN ship at the vicinity of Manila Bay.
“The PN will then render arrival honors for the two vessels to be led by the Secretary of National Defense Delfin Lorenzana,” it added.
With the arrival of BRP Conrado Yap, the PN’s intent of having a beefed-up frontline defense in safeguarding the country’s maritime domain is nearing realization, particularly in the field of anti-air warfare, anti-surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare.
Likewise, LD602’s journey further attested that the PN is now capable of sustaining operations across the deep waters of open oceans.
