Guerrero vows justice for BoC staff
The agency will extend the necessary support and assistance to its personnel
Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero on Saturday vowed to exert all efforts to bring justice for the two employees of the Bureau of Customs (BoC) who were involved in a shooting incident Friday night.
The Customs chief assured he will do everything to identify the perpetrators.
On 16 August, customs personnel identified as Maricon Manalo, 55 years old, Marietta Lasac, 60 years old and a certain Sherlyn Salazar were forced to get out of their car by four unidentified men.
Based on the initial report of the Philippine National Police (PNP), the victims were on board a Toyota Corolla Altis and were traversing Lapu-Lapu Avenue, Magallanes Village, Makati City when a car suddenly blocked their way.
In an attempt to escape the victims tried to reverse their vehicle but the action proved futile as the said assailants shot at the victims as they were pulling away.
Manalo was hit on the finger, while Lasac, her sister, was hit at the back near her shoulder. Manalo and her sister were rushed to the hospital and are now in stable condition.
Initial reports indicate the incident might have been an attempt to abduct or rob the victims.
In response, Guerrero tasked the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) to closely coordinate with the PNP for updates and further investigation.
“The agency will extend the necessary support and assistance to its personnel,” said Guerrero. “We enjoin all BoC employees to remain focused on our mission and pray for the speedy recovery of our colleagues,” he added.
