TESDA launches ‘Tsuper Iskolar’
Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Secretary Isidro Lapeña and Department of Transportation (DoTr) Undersecretary for Road Transport and Infrastructure Mark Richmund de Leon led the regional launching of the scholarship program, ‘Tsuper Iskolar’, which aims to give free skills and entrepreneurship training to drivers, operators, and other stakeholders under the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP).
During the launch, Undersecretary De Leon explained that the scholarship beneficiaries will be provided free skills training and assessment under the program implemented by the DoTr, in partnership with TESDA. Beneficiaries will include not only drivers but also members of their family, individuals who will be displaced by the PUV modernization, and stakeholders who want to exit or continue in the transport industry.
Some of the skills training courses offered under the program are Automotive Servicing, Machining, Driving and Food Technology. However, beneficiaries could also avail of other TESDA courses.
More than 2,000 scholars in the region are expected to benefit from the program, who will then be endorsed by their respective transportation associations to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB). Subsequently, the list of qualified candidates will be submitted by LTFRB to TESDA.
