Not simply wound care

There are different types of wounds that need different ways of treatment with the appropriate utilization of the latest advanced wound care system and surgical options available

- By Raye Sanchez

Wounds are more than just what children get when they trip and fall, what mothers experience when hot cooking oil suddenly splashes on their arm or hand or what dads get when they are fixing stuff and getting scraped or cut.

People can also get wounded in vehicular or motorcycle accidents. The elderly, especially, can also get sores from being bedridden or having undergone a recent operation.

What if the person has diabetes or poor blood circulation? What if the wound results in an infection or nerve damage? If these things happen to those who self-medicate, chances are their wound might worsen.

Luckily, ManilaMed has launched a Wound Care Unit dedicated to providing a holistic, consistent and specialized treatment to all types of acute and chronic wounds.

Patients will truly get the best care because of the roster of competent and compassionate doctors of General Surgery, Plastic Reconstructive Surgery, Vascular Surgery and Orthopedics.

Although they specialize in such, patients have to undergo standard assessments and procedures from the emergency room. Afterwards, if it is necessary, they will be sent to the unit where they will receive the proper care they need.

Services offered are management of acute and chronic or non-healing wounds (minor burns), post-traumatic wounds, diabetic ulcers, vascular ulcers (arterial and venous), pressure ulcers, radiation ulcers and post-surgical chronic wounds), prevention planning and education scar management (scar modulation scar revision) and home wound care.

Plastic reconstructive surgeon and head of the Wound Care Unit at ManilaMed Dr. Glenn Angelo Genuino stated, “There are different types of wounds that need different ways of treatment with the appropriate utilization of the latest advanced wound care system and surgical options available.”

For more information, ManilaMed Wound Care Unit is open from Mondays to Saturdays at 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and can be reached through (02) 523-8131 loc 7805.
